This sounds like good news, not sure what other people are reading?

At E3 they mentinoed that new amiibos could come from other games, and from what's on the OP seems like you can erase the SSB portion of the current sold Link amiibo and maybe use it on Zelda U with write capabilities (instead of having to buy a new Link amiibo).

I think the reason people see it as bad news is cause we thought it woudl work on Smash AND Zelda U without needing to erase.

But I highly doubt many games even use the save feature.  I see most features of Amiibo as just scan and get unlockable, such as its being used in Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart.  no saving required.

(re-using post) Amiibos aren't confined to SSB, supposedly there are more to come with significant features (write/save features).

According to an IGN interview with Takahashi and Miyamoto, each game would have its own set of amiibo figures, but those figures can also be used in other games and may have limited functionality in the other games. How this works remains to be seen.

The limited SSB functionality (read features) are the compatible features we are seeing for the other games (unlock weapons, skins).
