(re-using post) Amiibos aren't confined to SSB, supposedly there are more to come with significant features (write/save features).

According to an IGN interview with Takahashi and Miyamoto, each game would have its own set of amiibo figures, but those figures can also be used in other games and may have limited functionality in the other games. How this works remains to be seen. |
The limited SSB functionality (read features) are the compatible features we are seeing for the other games (unlock weapons, skins).
