Dreamcast had plenty of 60fps gaming (not just racing, they even upped Sonic Adventure 2 to 60fps) from day 1, as did PS2. In that generation, most racing games of any note targetted 60fps. Gran Turismo There's a reason Forza went 60fps after the first one. 60fps is the reason Call of Duty became the console FPS king. While the competition were happier to have flashier graphics, they play like treacle. Most people won't be able to tell you they prefer COD online for the 60fps because they don't even realise games run at different frame rates. But they can feel it when they are playing it. |
Games like F Zero X and Virtua Fighter weren't the majority though. Their 60fps was noteworthy because most games were not. And the 8-bit & 16-bit systems had performance drops of a frequency close to par with the 7th gen.
