Positive Impacts From a Unified/Fusion Nintendo Platform

Both platforms having the same games gives customers no incentive to buy the other platform just like how Xbox One having almost the same games as the PS4 gives no incentive to buy the Xbox One. 

Then stop trying to sell people two hardware platforms. It's actually become a very expensive proposition that Nintendo is asking of consumers -- please spend $170 for out handheld and then spend another $300+ for our home console just to play the Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/DKC games you want. 

We actually shouldn't be that surprised that a lot of people seem to be tiring of it. Go back to the basics that Mr. Yamauchi started with ... sell the hardware at cost and make money off the games and now you can also score with the Amiibo toys. 

An affordable Nintendo platform that has all their games in one place instead of divided into two could also probably entice a lot of fence sitters who don't want to buy an entire platform just 3-4 Nintendo games alone per year.
