I've been telling some people the following: I haven't completed any Zelda game except Spirit Tracks. I loved that game, but other than that I am not really into the series. I actually have Ocarina of Time for 3DS as well, but I completed that without much pleasure at the end of the game. For some reason I'm still thinking that I can get into the Zelda series but I don't know which game to try next. I can't go for a Wii U game though, because I don't have a Wii U. If you're going to recommend a very old Zelda game I'll have to be a sneaky bastard and pirate it, which I'd rather not do, but I'm fine with it if you really recommend it. I thought about playing Phantom Hourglass once but that doesn't really help my interest in Zelda because it seems to be like Spirit Tracks.

So what should I play?

Based on this I think I have to ask what kind of Nintendo system you have because your choices may be limited...

For me, A link to the past on the snes is the best but I don't want you to become a sneaky bastard...

I have a Wii, DS and 3DS, so it's not very limited due to backwards compatibility. So far it does seem like I might go for a console game.

The Zelda games sometimes can be different enough from each other to the point that it boils down to your personal tastes. Some people think OoT is overrated and they say TP is better. I've beaten both twice and I think OoT is better. Some say Windwaker is the best of them. I'm fighting the boss of the second dungeon om the Wii U version and so far, I'm not as estatic as I was two dungeons into any previous Zelda game. I have a Link between Worlds on 3DS and whole I'm only about 30% through, my brother and my roomate have both finished it. My brother thinks the arsenal is one of the best in the series and he really liked the game, while he hates the arsenal in Skyward Sword for being the lamest (in terms of destructive power) even though he loved Skyward Sword enough to beat it twice before I beat it even once.

So it all boils down to you. I'd suggest Skyward Sword over Twilight Princess though, and since you said Phantom Hourglass is too similar to Spirit Tracks, I'd suggest a Link between Worlds. Majora's Mask is the most different game in the series imo, but I personally loved it.
