A lot of people will only have one TV and so will want something under it that can cover as many bases as possible, and maybe for some people that is Xbox.  You're not in that situation.  p.e.o.p.l.e.a.r.e.d.i.f.f.e.r.e.n.t.

while i get that p.e.o.p.l.e.a.r.e.d.i.f.f.e.r.e.n.t,... the average US household has 3.1 TVs.    ...and i'd be willing to bet the housholds able to purchase a $500 gaming machine are far more likely to have more than 1 tv than the households unable to afford xbone.

Even if a household has more than one TV doesn't mean they want seperate ones for seperate things like you do.  What about a family that wants to keep the X1 in the living room, not their kids bedroom, so they can control how much it is used and so the whole family have constant access to it?  What about all the well off, or even those of average income, single people who live alone so only have one TV?  Just because they maybe in a minority doesn't mean there isn't a sizeable market to go after.  The whole point of having everything in a box is it's wide appeal.
