The media are also more likely to do deep coverage of larger, more culturally-relevant, famous events than they are to do of smaller, newer, less-established events. They are particularly more likely to do 'deep coverage' of events that aren't designed in a manner that feels like a deliberate snub to journalists.

Errr...what exactly did you just say? From what I gathered, you (someone who has no ties to gaming media) are disagreeing with Dale North (someone who works for a sizable gaming news site) with pretty much nothing backing up your point.
Also, I don't think most journalists are taking this approach as a "snub"...
