What does shipping 5.1m up to the end of March have to do with the sales numbers weekly now? I don't see how we can draw any conclusions from it at all, especially given MS recent statements about halting production for a while.

Ehm, everything? Shipment numbers give us insight into how sales have been historically and also the demand for the console going forward. I do believe PS4 is a bit low on the site, when considering the official numbers from Sony.
