If I had to pick 8 characters for a beta in the near future, I'd include a total of 6 veterans and two newcomers. I'm assuming that we'll get a newcomer on Tuesday, so them, Mega Man (the most hyped newcomer at the moment), and these six veterans should be in it.
- Mario (Because duh)
- Link (The sole swordsman)
- Kirby (Sakurai's other big series)
- Pikachu (You need one of them Pokemans)
- Samus (Reggie wore that Metroid pin for a reason)
- Donkey Kong (A heavier fighter, following up Tropical Freeze)
Little Mac should be included as a possible substitute for any of the above fighters.
Then, the day Mario Kart 8 comes out, maybe they release an update including Bowser, Luigi, Yoshi, and Rosalina to hype people for Mario Kart.
Finally, when the game is actually released, people who got these betas before release can download the game for a lower price than usual at retail. It could be as little as $10, but that would still encourage people to buy a Wii U well in advance of Smash Bros.
