What do you think are Nintendo's realistic expectations/plans going forward with the WiiU?

You are thinking about this like a Playstation fan, that's why you are having trouble seeing it at face value.

Remember, on Nintendo's market, Watch Dogs is relatively unimportant. Their buyers typically value Mario Kart much more than they do Watch Dogs, in general.

On Sony's market, sure Watch Dogs will eclipse other entries coming out during the same period.

As for Smash, Japan at best consists of 35% of the sales (in more modern eras ~20%), but of late Smash has sold primarily in North America, which is the U's weakest region at the moment and where a system seller like Smash could make the biggest splash (no rhyme intended):

So the release of Smash on the 3DS affecting japan sales should have little impact on Smash's system selling potential in NA and EU.

Ok? I said Smash Bros will move a few systems. I'm not sure what exactly you're disagreeing with. I never said it was going to bomb in North America and Europe. I just don't see it pushing the WiiU passed Gamecube numbers.
