Mass Effect will have that core following for a long, long time. People still go on about the likes of Final Fantasy VI and it was released 20 Years ago, so why wont people still be going on about Mass Effect in 15 Years time, when there will likely be Mass Effect stuff releasing around that time?
Hell, Baldur's Gate released in 1998 and it still has a fairly substantial following over 15 Years later. Mass Effect as a series far surpasses BG in mainstream popularity. Same could be argued of Knights of the Old Republic, though it isnt as old.
And Im gonna say this right now - The FIFA franchise in 2014 is bigger than any Nintendo IP, in terms of mainstream popularity.
Then you have things like Battlefield. Need for Speed. The Sims. Sim City. Madden. Medal of Honor.
And just to add a tad more, seeing as how we are talking about the popularity of big titles... EA Sports FIFA on Facebook has over 21 Million likes. Need for Speed on Facebook has 16.7 Million likes. The Sims on Facebook has 12.8 Million likes. Battlefield on Facebook has 6.9 Million likes. EA on Facebook has 2.7 Million likes. Nintendo on Facebook has 2.5 Million likes. Super Mario on Facebook has 1.9 Million likes.
I could go on, but Im not a sadist.
EA as a company (despite being "the worst company ever") is hugely popular with the mass market. People love EA. People put up with the shit EA does time and time again because well... People love EA's games. Its entirely arguable that theyre more popular than Nintendo in terms of software. Especially this Decade.
