I think actually to be honest Nintendo doesn't do a great job with kids.

How is a kid who was born in say 1999 supposed to know what the hell Kid Icarus is? Or Star Fox? Or even Zelda to some degree? They'd only be 6/7 years old when Twilight Princess came out.

And now Nintendo is losing kids like crazy to smartphones/tablets ... I would guarantee you more kids know Angry Birds or Candy Crush than most of Nintendo's IP roster.

I think the best play now is to try and get a new generation of kids hooked, if they don't then it's going to be difficult for Nintendo relying on 30-40 year olds to buy their supposed "kid centric" IP.

Casual gamers are a difficult audience. They have a million things to be entertained by and don't necessarily care for anything even slightly more difficult than a 2D Mario game at most.
