Consider the gamer who has just started gaming this generation, to them each platform will be defined by the only games they know.
Nintendo = Mario, Zelda, Maybe DK
Xbox = Halo, Maybe Gears
Playstation = Uncharted, Maybe GTA

Clearly software is not helping the Wii U and neither is sitting on IPs, a Gamepadless SKU wouldn't really help the Wii U cause its not addressing the problem.
