Although Nintendo said they were caught off guard by the time it took develop HD games, there is a huge disparity between the amount of games that came out for the 3DS compared to the Wii U. Are too many of Nintendo's 1st party studios focusing on the 3DS as opposed to the Wii U? What do you think?

First off, it's not the best selling current gen console, it's a HANDHELD. The best selling current gen console is PS4. Second, no, it's not the problem. The DS was selling much better and the Wii sold 100 million units.
People just need to chill. I own a Wii-U, it's fun and Miiverse is the best online community of all three. It's just not going to sell that well because it's a niche product. It'll make a profit, and all will be well and Nintendo will be fine.

DS and Wii were vastly different, for one DS was mostly 2D with a select few 3D games while Wii could handle 3D games well.

If were true, the Gameboy would have caused the NES and SNES to struggle.
