Is 3DS the real culprit?

The 3DS is doing great. It is the best selling current gen console, and Nintendo's 1st party is churning out one amazing game after another for the handheld like there's no tomorrow. Therein perhaps lies the problem though. Have they been using too much of their resources making games for the 3DS rather than the Wii U?

Although Nintendo said they were caught off guard by the time it took develop HD games, there is a huge disparity between the amount of games that came out for the 3DS compared to the Wii U. Are too many of Nintendo's 1st party studios focusing on the 3DS as opposed to the Wii U? What do you think?

No, it's the Wii U itself the problem.

This. Iwata isn't exactly helping either.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

They are both targeted towards two different markets so no... The only time the 3ds may hurt the wiiU sales is during Smash Bros but even then, I am sure more people prefer the console version than the 3ds one

The point wasn't about demographics. It was a question of whether Nintendo was allocating too much of their resources to 3DS as opposed to the Wii U.

The lack of Mario Kart is the REAL cause of Wii U's struggles.

No...I don't understand.

The 3DS's existence does hurt the Wii U, but I don't think for the reasons you're saying. The 3DS's library is only bigger because it's been out longer. When launch alligned, the Wii U has actually gotten and getting more releases than the 3DS ever did. I believe the main reason why 3DS hurts Wii U, and why all Nintendo handhelds hurt their home console counterparts, is because their librarys are so similar, so naturally most people are gonna take the cheaper route to playing Nintendo games, which is always the handheld.

Well... 2014 seems to have changed that since I hardly even know any games coming out from Nintendo/Collaborations for the 3ds but I know a few for the wiiU...

I games I know that are coming for the 3ds are Kirby, Smash and Yoshi vs the games for the wiiU are Beyonatta 2, X, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong Country, Hyrule Warriors, SMT vs FE (iffy about that one), MK8 and maybe Yoshi's earn thing as well so, in 2013, yes they were focusing on the 3ds but now they are clearly focusing on the wiiU... And lets not forget about what ever they are gonna announce at e3

Obviously not counting third parties for either systems
