While it's true that the circumstances surrounding Wii Fit U make accurate sales figures impossible, we can infer from hardware sales what effect it has had on the Wii U's momentum. Judging by its current sales numbers, it would not be too much.

While I don't disagree, I will say that judging by Nintendo's handling of the property, I believe they (correctly) read the market and assumed that it would not have a large impact and and treated it as such as to not waste marketing money (which should have been spend elsewhere but never was >.>)

That's a reasonable suggestion.
I will say, though, that the fact a success like Wii Fit U saw such a massive dip between generations leads me to question if other franchises that saw success last generation might see a similar trajectory.
