Mario Kart has grown in popularity a lot since then. It didn't really take off since MK DS and MK Wii. "Save" is obviously a relative term, but  at any rate the impact should be much greater than for the GC.

I've already said what I think of that a few posts above.

Software sells hardware. The opposite is also correct, however.
