It'd be retro and PC gaming for this Nintendo fan, unless some PlayStation system finally offered enough great JRPG's to be worth my time and money.

Funny you should say that, because the Playstation is the best system to own if you're interested in JRPGs.  Unless you're only talking about new RPGs and generalizing Playstation to mean PS4 and Vita only.  You did say retro, but you could just mean sticking to retro Nintendo games.

PlayStation is the best console for JRPG's, but not the best system. In the 7th gen, that would be the DS. And the 3DS seems like it's continuing that trend, especially considering how great a year 2013 was for the genre.

We could get into a little debate about whether the DS or PS3 has had a better JRPG lineup, but considering how I picked up the DS in 2008, when the system already had a decent JRPG library*, and the PS3 JRPG library didn't pick up for another year or so, I think I made a sound choice.

As it is, I'm considering getting a PS3 eventually to play games like Persona 5, the Souls games, Kingdom Hearts HD, Ni no Kuni, etc.

*By the end of 2008, the DS had The World Ends With You, Pokemon Gen 4, Mario & Luigi, Atlus titles, and the various remakes and ports you often find on handhelds.

I'm not talking about the PS3 though.  PS3 has a horrible JRPG line up(it's got some good games but you know what I mean.)  I'm talking about the Playstation, PSX, PSOne.

Oh, the original PlayStation! Yeah, I really need to catch up on that platform's JRPG library. I have a PS2 with backwards compatibility, but still need to catch up on those.
