Maybe that's it. I never thought of it that way (being an older game with older gameplay etc.). I just don't know why I can still play the first Zelda and other games and still enjoy them and I can't get into ALTTP. *shrugs*
It really bugs me because I feel I HAVE to beat it. It's like never seeing the Wizard Of Oz or The Godfather. I feel it's kind of mandatory to beat ALTTP.
