Forums - Nintendo - Dear father, I have a confession

I was born in 1979 which makes me a part of the NES generation. I played the Atari 2600 when I was maybe 3-5ish, before getting an NES in 1985 thanks to my Mom's awesomeness. One of the games that I would grow to love was the first Zelda. I would play for hours and hours with my friends, pre internet, pre Google, pre everything, trying to figure out where the hell the extra heart pieces, dungeons and other secrets were. It was a blast. I would later do the same for Zelda 2, despite the fact that it was weird as shit lol. Later on, I would go on to enjoy OOT,MM,WW and all the other Zeldas just the same with the exception of one....LTTP.

I don't know what it is, but, I just can't get into it. I bought it for GBA back in the day, when I still had the GBA player hooked up to my GC, figuring that it was now a good time to play what many consider the best in the franchise, but I just...couldn't do it. lol. I'd start a new game, get past the first part where you have to sneak into the first building, and then...just stop. It doesn't hold my attention.

Why is this? Am I just crazy? It isn't the top down view, because I love the first and second games. I even beat both
GBC titles developed by Capcom. There is just something about LTTP that doesn't hold my attention and I don't know what it is. I still have the game, and I still WANT to play it, but it just doesn't interest me. I'll start up a new file maybe twice a year and it happens every single time lol.

You'd think, considering it's now almost legendary in status, that this would be impossible. Does anyone else have this issue with other renowned classics? Games that are praised as some of the best games of all time but you just can't get into them?

I have a similar problem with the Lttp too. I've gotten past the first Dark world dungeon, but i don't feel like moving on.

Super Metroid, people praise it as the best in the series, but it feels too... floaty i guess, after playing the fast pace Fusion and then Zero Mission, i just can't play Super Metroid, i just watched an LP of the whole thing.

I actually just beat ALttP for the first time recently...
I don't understand the militant love so many have for the game...
Don't get me wrong: I think the game is very good, but I think it's greatness is overstated more so than any other Zelda game...
I think the incredible story so many have told me about was pretty forgettable by Zelda standards, and while the soundtrack has some unforgettable moments, I think it's the worst in the series...

Have a nice day...

Not a classic but it will be in a couple of years I have this issue with Journey. I finished it but... damn I don't understand the praise...

I'll be honest, I'll let it all out. I hate the damn game! I don't even know if it's a game! It's boring and I regret every little bit of money I spent in it. The soundtrack was ok too, but I was expecting something playable.

I'm all for art games and bla bla bla but damn, I need some gameplay on it! Fuck Journey.

Same Im a youngster born in 92 so I played Fusion and Zero Mission before I ever played Super and to me those games were far superior.

i really wish they made a Super Metroid Advance with the Zero Mission or Fusion engine :/

That happened to me with Super Metroid but I'll try again because I'm running out of video games to play :P

ALTTP was a break though at the time and when your standards haven't been raised by 3D Zeldas but actually lowered by The Adventure of Link, the game impressed more and more every step further into it's world. C'mon, from 8-bit to 16-bit the greatest game we ever played surpassed the legend. But now it's not a game for everyone. Especially Nintendo turncoats.

Games that I can't get into... Metal Gear Solid series... I knew i didn't like it but some how bought all four.  They bore me to tears.  Smash bros same thing, i bought them and was seriously dissatisfied.  As far as a series that let me down, that would be halo.  I played ce a million time, every which way, legendary, hacks, multi, co-op, fun with glitches, fun with physics,  everything.  2-4 and the side storiez all suck imo.
