Agreed, 4-player online co-op and massive dogfights have immense potential. Give it to Retro Studios and develop it as Nintendo's flagship online multiplayer experience.

I think you are into something here, the characters are already there, and you can have both a good single player and online multiplayer experience, they can even add a 8 vs mode (4 vs 4) using star wolf. But I don't want the developer to be platinum or Retro, I want Nintendo to give the opportunity to Treasure and support them with an internal studios that handle the technical stuff.

I actually just recently jotted down some random thoughts I had for the series, I'll try and remember when I get home tomorrow. The reason I say Retro is because they have shown to have a keen eye in spotting what's great about a franchise and improve almost every aspect. I would treat this as a game that could persuade some fps fans. It needs a big name backing it.

I can see some potential in dual gamepad support. 2-player local co-op with both players looking at the gamepad and the tv offering a map and items or score screen. Bundle it with a gamepad and market as Nintendo's take on the online shooter genre. Plenty of sales potential if executed properly.
