It's actually probably selling fairly equivalently to Super Mario Galaxy given the size of the userbase. Lets look at Japan:
100k SM3D World opening week on 1.1 million Wii Us
260k Super Mario Galaxy opening week on 3.75 million Wiis
Actually a higher percentage of Wii U owners bought Mario 3D World over Galaxy.
The Wii U is just in a very tough spot hardware wise Nintendo made the horrible, horrible mistake of betting the entire console on the game pad idea that no one asked for and yet again making a console out of step with modern technological trends.
That said I think Mario will have legs. Mario always has legs, and beyond that, Mario 3D World will remain the top Wii U game for a while IMO. EAD Tokyo is simply Nintendo's best developer ... it's not even close any more. The only game I think in terms of sheer quality/Metascore that could knock Mario 3D World would be Zelda or the next EAD Tokyo Mario ... both of which are probably a long ways off.
So Mario 3D World should continue to have a higher adoption rate for people buying the console, it will get up to 4.5-5 million LTD IMO.
