This is a tough business. Oddly enough I can't think of anything that sums it up better than that Britney Spears song (lol) "you better work, b*tch". Fortunately I think Nintendo's getting an eye opener from the incredible enthusiasm around the PS4 and X1 launches and realizing they have to engage in these types of events or they are going to have virtually no mindshare with consumers other than Nintendo fanatics. Which just isn't good enough. I'm pleased that they are engaging with Spike/Gametrailers. Nintendo maybe one year ago doesn't even bother to do this and figures a Nintendo Direct is good enough (Nintendo Direct honestly IMO is the worst type of marketing ... it's just preaching to the same little choir of fans). |
I think that attitude derives from their earlier success, when Nintendo was a family household name, when they had those Nintendo TV shows running. Something I think they should reboot. Get some proper Zelda anime going, Mario in Simpsons or Family Guy style, maybe some sort of game show where you can win Nintendo products.
I agree with Nintendo Directs, I really like them myself (gives Nintendo personality), but as you said, preaching to the choir. Bring back Nintendo Space World !
