so they are targeting family and party gamers? I thought they made the Wiiu for the core also? looks like a 180 to me.

That's their problem, they aimed at both and missed both. Chasing two rabbits and all that.

So it's a Gamecube... only higher in price, with outdated graphics, and weak third party support.

I hope Nintendo will find a way to fix this and stay competitive.

Edit: At least it was launched a year before the competition on contrary to GC. Maybe that will somewhat help it holding its ground.

The greatest added challenge now is the extended time and cost of HD development compared to the Wii era, this will prevent 1st parties to arrive as timely and strategically as they probably need to in order to help sales chugging along.

They have fixed a couple of things; the removed the Basic SKU which should never have seen the light of day and they cut the price. In my opinion, they should rather have launched it without the Gamepad and with a ramped up Wii-mote and maybe at 250$ like the last time. They might have had a slight loss at first but at least they would have a control scheme that people were familiar with and that already had some support and knowledge in developer bases. Their price cut now only served to cost them even more in losses.

The Wii U was poorly planned and poorly executed, unfortunately. Another problem for them will be the inevitable comparisons to the Wii and even the PS360 sales-wise, when you look at other Nintendo consoles it doesn't appear to be that bad. Comparing any console to the Wii's first few years will make them look silly.
