It's doable I guess.. 4 year lifespans are more common than people think. Pretty much every Sega console had a 4 year lifespan, and the original Xbox was also replaced after 4 years.
Is it really worth it to Nintendo though? Chasing 3rd party approval ended badly for the GameCube, so would things really change this time if they were to use that strategy again? I'm not so sure.
