Packing in Mario? That's so 1985. Then again, it also works. Good decision, Nintendo.

I actually like Nintendo Land a lot. It's a great game and showcases a lot of what the Wii U can do. NSMBU isn't really graphically impressive at all and looks 100% possible for the Wii to pull off but there is no doubt Mario is the biggest name. It's a lot of fun, too. This is what everybody said they should have done and Nintendo is finally doing it. They're trying to save the Wii U and I hope it works. It's a great console that needs exposure.

The SNES launched with Mario as well. The N64 was the first console to NOT offer a proper Mario as a pack in.

Heck, mine came with a mail in offer for SMB All-Stars, too!  It was Mario overload.  I can forgive the N64 since it had a Mario title at launch and, at the time, nobody was offering pack-in titles anymore.  Gamecube dropped the ball with Sunshine coming out so far after launch and, despite its success, I think the Wii should have had a Mario launch title, too.  Luckily Wii-Sports was able to tow the line.  With the Wii U, they had a Mario title at launch and opted to sell it seperately.  It was obviously going to move software but I still think it would have moved more hardware packed in!

I agree. Mario was INVENTED to be a pack in game and to sell hardware. And you know what? No one has ever done it better. Hopefully going forward, this becomes the norm again. Get those damn consoles in houses and THEN sell the software.
