N64 did pretty well in America no doubt, though to be fair to the GameCube, it probably had easier competetion ... a bumbling Sega and Sony was still a newcomer for the first couple of years.
The GCN had to face a much more established Playstation brand and Microsoft had much more money to throw around than Sega did. Though the GameCube had its own issues too.
