Do u have to look down at the Gamepad to draw shapes on TW101?

It takes away from the immersion.
The Wii U is kind of annoying when it tells you "Look at your gamepad!" "Now back at your gamepad!" "Now back at me" for the games I played its so gimmicky and unnecessary, its just some games don't do it right.
