This year for Q1 Nintendo shipped 1.4 million 3DS' worldwide, versus 1.86 million last year, so yeah they're down by about 33% this year right off the bat.

Q2 is almost certainly going to be down from last year too because NSMB2 + 3DS XL launched in that quarter last year.

Q3 and Q4 is where they will have to make hay.

That's nice, but those aren't really official numbers, just estimates. Nintendo's shipment numbers are actual facts. VGC over/undertracks hardware/software all the time.
