Nintendo isn't discontinuing the 8GB model.(at least not in the UK)
Anyway both the premium and basic models aren't enough storage even for a casual gamer. It's a shame the Wii U doesn't support internal HDDs. It's unlikely casual gamers will go pure digital with the measly amount of storage offered. Which is weird since NIntendo has experienced how profitable the eShop can be.

So...tell me where I can fit a 3.5 HDD inside a WiiU.

WiiU supports external HDDs. Is that not enough for you people?!
