Everybody and their pet monkey has a list of things they want to see from this year's E3. So I thought I'd chime in. Sure, this is redundant and whatnot, and similar wishlists have already been made. But I feel like I might offer yet another perspective.
The following things are not all necessary for a great E3 from Nintendo, and plenty of other things would make a great E3. However, I feel like these things would be relatively simple for Nintendo and would be good ideas in general.
1. New Models for the Wii U
The Wii U does NOT need a price cut. $300 is a fine starting price for a new console in this day and age. What Nintendo needs to bring is a better value for that price. For example, wouldn't it be nice and easy for Nintendo to phase out the 8 GB Wii U and drop the 32 GB model to $300? It wouldn't even have to come with a game like NintendoLand. Just add 24 GB to the launch model.
If production is not a prime concern, it may also be time to add a new model Wii U with more memory. 120 GB would be ideal IMO, but anything with at least 80 GB would be a great step in the right direction. 80 or 120 GB is enough for a casual player to download every game they own and enough for even the hardcore to not have to buy an external hard drive immediately.
Another alternative is new bundles with upcoming software. Specially colored Wii Us with an extra controller for the extremely likely Mario Kart 8 for $400 would fly off shelves, especially if the game is worthwhile.
Speaking of which.
2. Do NOT delay the current 2013 Lineup
I know I shouldn't be asking for games to be rushed to stores. That's the road to low quality garbage, etc. But Nintendo needs the current upcoming lineup of games sooner rather than later, especially with the PS4/XBone coming soon.
The good news is, the current lineup for 2013 is promising, even without any new additions. Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Wind Waker HD, and Mario Kart 8 alone would be sufficent for the second half of 2013, even assuming other games are released in 2014 at earliest.
Besides, these games have been in the works for a while. A couple of these upcoming releases were meant as launch titles, there hasn't been a Wii Fit game for years, and Wind Waker HD is a remake. Even Mario Kart doesn't need a whole lot of new stuff. An enhanced sequel to the 2011 3DS game would suffice. The point is, we need these games now.
3. Highlight the 3rd Party Stuff
Unless it's for Just Dance or Monster Hunter 3, people haven't bought Nintendo consoles for 3rd party games since the SNES era. The upcoming 3rd party games like Rayman Legends, Batman Arkham Origins, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4, and Call of Duty: Ghosts are not going to be huge hits on the Wii U.
Make a big deal out of them anyway.
Why? Because 3rd parties matter, even for Nintendo. People on the edge of buying an 8th gen system might go with the Wii U not because the 3rd party support will be great, but because the Wii U will get great Nintendo content and at least SOME 3rd party games.
In 2007, the Wii missed out on Call of Duty 4. Despite the glory of 2008 and 2009, one can argue the Wii's downfall began there. But by having not only 3rd party games but also next-gen third party games, many will come to consider the Wii U at least a competitor for the PS4 and Xbone.
4. Amaze us with the Future
I do not expect Super Smash Bros to be coming out soon. The same applies with the next Super Mario, the next Zelda, Project X, Retro's mystery game, etc. But mention them anyway. Show us why they will be big deals. If possible, arrange for trailers and gameplay.
We need to know the Wii U is going to have a future. For the past few months, it has barely had a present, but that can be forgiven with time and games. And although games are definately going to start coming with Pikmin 3 in August, Nintendo needs to convince us that droughts will not become the norm for Wii u owners.
5. Specific Demands for Specific Games
*Announce online multiplayer for Pikmin 3. Yeah, I know you disconfirmed it a year ago. But that was before a nearly year-long delay. Reward us for our wait. Considering how local multiplayer was already a thing, this should NOT be that hard!
*Mario Kart 8 does not need to be revolutionary. So far as I'm concerned, they could just make it a bigger and better version of 7. This means taking the same basic gameplay, but adding more characters, more modes (Missions/Campaign Modes anyone?), more online options (Communities were great in 2011, but I expect 2 years of advances), and possibly more tracks. Also, could we make our own custim cups again? I liked that feature. Things like custom racetracks would be nice, but seeing as we're aiming for a quick sequel here, we'll settle for 5 or 6 person local multiplayer instead.
*Wii Fit U should cost less than Wii Fit did back in 2008. The price of making those plastic boards has likely gone down, and a lot of people are hesitant to pick up this series again. A low price for a combo game/board or even a lower price tag for the game than usual would help sell the idea to people.
*Wind Waker HD should have a second mode or some significant additions. Maybe the game is altered enough so you can throw in "original" mode to appease oldtimers. Maybe you can throw in a Master Quest ala Ocarina. Maybe there can be a Boss Rush mode, or a new dungeon or two, or something. Use Ocarina 3D as a starting point on how to remake a Zelda game, and run with it.
