On the topic in general: I think we all (assuming all posters here are men) like the thought, that hot chicks of any ethnic group prefer men of our ethnic group. Because we all want hot chicks to prefer us. 
So some anecdotical evidence of some girls who like western man are base enough for such a rumor.
