Gears of War J is far less of a follow up than God of War A, in fact there is no reason so Gears fans to even pick up GOWJ. GOWJ has different developer, different mechanics even different main characters... God of War A has the same developer, same mechanics and same main character... it was clearly designed as a followup to God of War 3.
GOWA's budget is also bound to be much higher than GOWJ, especially with that superbowl spot which costs millions of dollars.
MS didn't hype GOWJ up one bit, it was never intended to be a follow up to Gears of War 3. GOWA on the other hand with its massive budget and superbowl spots was supposed to be the next great chapter in the God of War series, for that... it flopped.
Retailers are proof of this, GOWA is discounted pretty much everywhere, logic should tell you that if a game gets a swift price cut, it has been over shipped. GOWJ hasn't had any price cuts, its doing just fine.
