I have to disagree with you.
Take a man and his wife. He loves her but his best friend doesn't. His best friends lists 20 reasons she is annoying. All good reasons. The man defends his wife because he doesn't think she's annoying. She could be annoying to everyone on the planet, but the man isn't irrational for loving his wife just the way she is.
You can't say that someone irrationaly likes something or someone. You can however say that someone irrationaly hates something or someone.
A fan likes what he/she likes and really shouldn't even have to defend his/ personal taste. A fanboy hates and hate is rarely rational.
