Steam is free and a great service and it manages it in an open environment where it has direct competition on the selling stuff side. Also, I've never seen an ad on Steam. XBL, on the other hand... Well, let's just say that I don't undestand at all how some think having to pay for XBL is acceptable when all other similar services do it for free.

What I can understand, though, is people saying $60 a year isn't a big deal, but you can you can really say that about anything. How about the privilege to make calls on your phone? That'll be $10 a year, thank you! (And yeah, I should have picked a better 'service' as an example but I'm in a rush right now.)

You should have picked a better service. People do pay to make calls once they have a phone.... Your comparison is absolutely terrible . Seriously people, it's $60 a year ffs.... People spend more on fast food, alcohol and cigarettes. You know, tags that slowly kill you? Leave xbox live alone. I pay only $40 for 12 months, that's $3 a month. GROW UP.

There are people who think everything should be free and feel that they are entitled to play games like it's some kind of right. Look what happens when a light hearted thread tryings to discuss why people choose to play games on XBL: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=155821 Attacks on personal character and missquotes taken out of context.
