So I played the NSMBU demo at Walmart- Is it supposed to be nearly the exact same visual wise as the Original?

I think Nintendo doesn´t like developing 2D Mario games, they "force themselves" due to their sales power.On the other hand, they try to give the 3D games top treatment..they really blew their load with Mario Galaxy, that game has superb production values, awesome soundtrack, etc..while NSMB U reuses a lot of assets from other NSMB games, including the very annoying 'wah wah' music :D

It´s one of the (few) things I agree with Malstrom, when he says Nintendo 'hates' 2D Mario but truly loves 3D Mario, the evidence is all over the place.

Hate is a strong word, i think they just feel they took the series as far as it could go creatively, and from what i played, IMHO i would agree with them.

I disagree, games like Donkey Kong Country Returns  and Rayman Origins show there's plenty of water left in the 2D platformer creativity well. NSMB could learn a lot from those games.
