Can you explain, how semi open-world works?

Sure, I can explain how my definition of semi open-world works. Its basically like a succession of Grand Pulses in FF13. Big areas conected through narrower ones without the ability to backtrack from a certain point onwards in order to tell a coherent story. Like this: big/huge area giving illusion of freedom -> key scene triggered -> next area

Ah, that way. I personally prefer real open world games even at the expense of story, but that is personal preference.

You seemingly know not much about our advances in AI: a unscripted enemy would be pretty lame to fight today.

Really ? So my hope to finally see some real advances in AI in a next gen game are too optimistic ? I agree.

I am well aware of the limitations. I am also well aware that nobody gives a shit. Ofcourse there still must be scripted AI but it can be setup in a more complex way than we did in the past. More behaviour patterns triggered by more things. First of all I meant positioning and timing which should be dynamic. Not like e.g Uncharted where a certain row of enemies everytime appears in the same way.

The Dinosaurs should have certain characters. Raptors could for example follow rivers in order to kill certain stuff but if they encounter a Trex territory bail. Or certain species should stick together. Some Dinosaurs should be motivated by hunger and not go out of their way to attack you if they just ate. Also the population should be persistant and be simulated all the time if the player is present or not. All species should have different triggers and branches and skills.

Small carnivours should just attack you if they are in packs or you are on the verge of death. Sure there must be scripted AI still but it would feel more like real AI if its extended to such a level. Ofcourse its next gen and wasn't done before but thats the point of next gen and 8gb ram should go along way to make things like this more realistic.

That might work to some degree. And would be pretty cool if made well.

That is pretty much standard in better games, background info in game-objects is cool and gives something to the explorer-type of player.

Yes its pretty much standard. But the implementation of it is mostly worthless. Let me give an example: Grant reads a docs on a computer sees fascinating pics of Dinosaurs with DNA molecules spinning some text and goes to find a jeep with a gatling gun mounted on. He drives into the forrest and slaughters everything every time the same way.

Thats like its usually done. And doing it can be fun once.

But this is how I want it: Grant finds jeep with gatling gun drives in forest kills a few dinosaurs and flattens plants in order to get through the jungle runs out of bullets gets stuck with jeep steps out of the jeep gets killed by a hoard of raptors.

Reload facility. Reads up docs and Dinosaur behaviour. Reads docs where the territorries of certain species are and how the landscape is. Decides a path. Takes jeep to get through first dangerous territory after bullets run out goes through the rest of the less dangerous territories lays out traps avoids rivers and emerges on the other side. Key scene, scripted path Uncharted style story goes on-> Next territory New toxic Dinosaurs, Antidote is needed new survival strategy necessary and so on.

Ah, not only finding info, but it can have a real effect on your strategies. Again, might work if done well. Has the potential to be horrible if done not so well.

So you mean like in Monster Hunter, each species is special to fight, But they are not only dinosaur-like things, other monsters too. You should give a monster hunter that is available on the platform of your choice a try with this wishes towards a game.

I own Monster Hunter 3 and I know the game. Yes a little bit like Monster Hunter in theory. But more like Monster Hunter+Uncharted+Survival Horror+FPS thrown into a blender.

The Dinosaurs should obviously all be able to be killed with guns or other weapons, but the different behavioral patterns of the dinosaurs + unique skillset of the dinosaurs + availability of different types of limited ressources + varying environment and amount of enemies, should force you to use strategy and a lot of different tactics to reach a certain goal. And the background info you find on the Island now is crucial for success and not just decoration like in 99% of the games.

Such a game would really be cool - day one. But it would also have an immense budget and would probably not appeal to the mass market - so I think it will not be done.
