To give an update on the stock situation, Nintendo is currently trending downward, following the release of the NPD results last night of only 66,000 Wii U's sold in the U.S. during February. 3DS sales and Fire Emblem numbers provided them with some good news, though. It wasn't all bad. They are expecting to meet their guidance of 4 million Wii U's sold worldwide by the end of March. If anything, Iwata's shareholder briefing at the end of April will be more about drumming up strengths of future product launches later this year, and less about dwelling on weak console sales in January and February. What's in the past is in the past, and I think now that Monster Hunter and LEGO City are coming out in the west, Wii U can only grow from here. The software drought is officially over.

I don't think they are going to meet 4 million Wii Us shipped but we'll see. Maybe they can barely squeeze it out.

They will meet the 4 million shipped to retail; however, the software projection of 16 million software will significantly be decreased to 13 million due to lack of software releases.
They shipped 830k in Japan by December 2012 - 830k sold as of last week.
They shipped 1.3 million in the Americas (Canada, U.S., Mexico, etc.) by December 2012 - 1.05 U.S. + 100k Canada as of February.
They shipped 900k in Others (Europe, Australia) - NA

The European sell through was horrid though, they hadn't even sold through like more than half of what they shipped through Christmas, meaning there's a lot of inventory sitting on retail store shelves, so a retailer is unlikely to order more.
They shipped 1.05 million for North America too but still haven't sold through 1 million and we're sitting here in March. They probably did get a chance to channel stuff a bit with that Zombi U bundle though.
This is the slowest selling home console for Nintendo in the US for sure out of the gate (barring the NES which was given a limited release in the NYC area).
|
You are wrong. They shipped over 1.3 million in the Americas - 1.1 million was allocated to the U.S., Canada 100k, and Mexico + Latin America countries 100k
The system in U.S. sold 440k in Nov., 460k in Dec, 55k in January, 66k in February - Grand total 1.02 million sold according to NPD figures ;) Sorry to disappoint.

Ah so they did finally manage to eek past 1 million sell through in the US.
Still, if anyone's dissapointed its Nintendo, that is a slower sell through than even the Dreamcast had in the US.
I think Europe probably still has a glut of inventory, my guess is they will end up around 3.7 million shipped by the end of March, just missing their target. If they channel stuff maybe they can push it to 4 million, but they will probably lose some long term goodwill with retailers if they do that.
