And wow, 8.5m episodes!  What about the entire season?

That's impossible to say really. All we know is that the retail versions contain all episodes.
Looking at TrueAchievements 48.000 own Episode 1, 20.000 own Episode 5, that's 42% who own all episodes.
But those are core gamers, so I expect the true number to be below that. Maybe 25% ? Who knows.
