GC ..... sure Nintendo put some games on it that were innovative. But did anyone notice? Nintendo obviously vowed to not let that happen again. The Wii and DS were so innovative that people Damn well took notice. Wii Sports, Shit HappyD! Microsoft and Sony bent over backwards to get their own money printing devices out just to stay above the water. Wii Fit, Brain age, Nintendo dogs. The list goes on. Innovative in a way that made people who never cared about games, do just that. Care about games. With that Nintendo hit the market with Galaxy 1 and 2, Skyward Sword, NSMB Wii, Mario Kart Wii, SSMB, etc Some of the highest rated games of all time if I am not mistaken. Mario did what Mario sunshine didn't. Nintendo shows that Nintendo gamers did not have to relay on 3rd parties. Nintendo did without them just fine for years. Until they started to work on the 3DS and WiiU. Then they could not support the DS and Wii like before. |
Yup, it sure is a tough call between the 6th and the 7th, because the 6th had disruptive innovations that negatively impacted the IPs in popularity (Sunshine, DD, WW respectively).
Also, I think 5th is not so far behind either, so for 5th, 6th and 7th gens I find it harder to mark a clear winner in innovation personally. All innovate in very different yet very important ways.
