Gandalf would be a better friend, but something about him strikes me as off-putting. Dumbledore at very least seems to be human enough to be a proper family member, whereas Gandalf is a bit too mystical and alien. Then you have Dumbledore's dark secrets and tragedies. He wouldn't share those with family, but they would make him very sympathetic and empathetic, and thus a better consultant for personal problems.
So, Gandalf would be a cooler Grandpa, but Dumbledore would be the better one.
