I'm sure there are quite a few WiiU things that have left you scratching your head. Features that existed before in the Wii but have been omitted in the U. Here are just a few from me:

  • Wiimote

Reason: None in the package, Gamepad is IT. When trying to use the TV, the Wara-Wara screen are not icons but links to the eShop.*

Collateral damage: No WiiU Mii's can live in your Wiimote.

Solution: Ignore the Wii remote and use the new TV remote in the Gamepad.

  • BC integration

Reason: The Gamecube games directly booted from the Wii disc channel, same with the DS content on the 3DS. So why does the WiiU takes you down memory lane inside a virtual Wii?

Collateral damage: Separated virtual shops.

Solution: Make Wii content boot directly from the WiiU OS?

  • WiiConnect24

Reason: When active, it was a service that permitted data to be sent to your console even when turned off. For a console that has needed extra firmwares, game patches and slowly downloads its software. It's a noticeable step back.

Collateral damage: No cool blue disc LED blinking in the morning. The replacement on the Gamepad only works if the console is on. (Also, the poor Wii living inside it has had its WiiConnect24 ripped away.)

Solution: It supposedly evolved into SpotPass. Whatever that is.

Did you notice any others?

(CORRECTION *: WaraWara plaza does let you run content if it is available.)
