Sure 1939 has some classics, but 1977 is the most epic year in movies of all time.

1977:

Star Wars
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
The Spy Who Loved Me
Annie Hall
Pete's Dragon
High Anxiety
The Rescuers

There's something for everyone and I left out a number of very good movies that aren't as well known as these. Star Wars alone wins the year the title of best year in movies, the rest are all gravy.

Nice to see some love for High Anxiety. I was just thinking of that movie the other day.

1977 is a solid choice. I might add Annie Hall and Saturday Night Fever to that list, two of the best of 1977 in my opinion.

Edit: Oops, Annie Hall made the list. My bad.

Yeah I almost put Saturday Night Fever on the list since it's so popular, but I never liked it so I left it off.

High Anxiety is a fantastic movie. I actualy think it's better than Vertigo and it's a masterpiece. But I've always been partial to comedies and have a short list of thrillers I'm a fan of.
