Probably not, Nintendo characters are just too appealing to that crowd.
Also, Microsoft has that dude-bro shooter appeal, something that moms and older people don't particularly enjoy.
They either need a really lovable mascot or a very fun, easy to access way to play games to be able to turn that around. Multimedia alone just won't do it.
