The only reason GTA sells more and gets better reviews is because of what it did with GTA3. Its been an industry darling ever since. Personally i got tired of the gameplay mechanics while playing GTA3 when i was getting to the end. I finished it and i havent bought another GTA game since. I did play bits and bobs at a friends just to know its not changed at all. Its a boring game all around. You have the most fun in it commiting a crime and trying to escape the police. And that isnt even part of the main game. |
I cannot agree with that at all. GTA IV is a far superior game. Furthermore Saints Row might also have a word with you and I also throw in Just Cause 2.
Sleeping Dogs is hardly the top of the genre.
- Proper melee combat (Batman Arkham City and lots of other games)
- Car ramming (even though I think it totally breaks the immersion since Sleeping Dogs is supposed to be somewhat realistic) was already in Driver San Francisco (and probably other games before).
- Jumping to other cars was already present in the Just Cause series.
- Use of the environment to take out your enemies (many other games), though that is the only feature that is somewhat advanced compared to the rest
How could you call that innovation when other games already had them before Sleeping Dogs ?
And all of my examples are from sandbox games.
