Nintendo was so surprised at how bloody awful 3ds sales were that they cut the pice by $80 less then a year after launch. The fact that the psvita hasn't been able to even match those awful sales is not a good sign. Sony can't afford to permanently slash the price any time soon. Sales are very very disappointing considering this isn't sony's first handheld.

well, you're also talking a fanbase of 130 million ds owners to 60m psp owners

It matched the sales...it just took longer, and even at a higher price. 3ds was 250, vita was 250 and 300 and required a memory card on top of that. So, something like 10% more expensive with half the fanbase.

What I'm saying is comparing the vita to probably the most dissappointing launch is history, and saying it did comparable to that is not something that should be considered an accomplishment. It's still doing terrible and sony has little they can do to fix that issue.
Nintendo was able to fix the problem by cutting the price by $80 and releasing a handful of first party games that will go on to be 10mil+ sellers.

Sony has no way of fixing their problem. They can't afford to cut the price so drastically. And they don't have any mega first party games that sell 4mil+, let alone 10mil+ on  handhelds. Their only hope lies with Rockstar, Activision, and Capcom. Activision already showed its not interested in making a good call of duty for the vita. Capcom seems to have moved its monster hunter franchise over to nintendo. Grand Theft Auto for the vita hasn't even been announced yet.
