pokoko i noticed you were not talking about loki, I'm saying that this film failed to produce any kind of thrilling sensation, dramatic build up or anything at all. a bunch of supermen kicked the bad guy's ass without breaking a sweet... what on earth did they avenge ?

This one is building up for the next ones. If the Avengers were physically out matched in this movie, what would there be to look forward to in the next one? LoKi was mentally trying to manipulate the Avengers, and at some point they were fighting eachother and not on the same page which means Loki almost won. However they over came that and defeated the invaders. Now that they know they can work together they will most likely face a much stronger foe. That's why at the end they teased a more powerful foe.

But this movie was also more about the build up of finally getting to see all these guys together and kicking ass. If you were a fan of super hero movies, then you would have sat through Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Captain America and Thor. That's 5 movies of anticipation and build up to watch these guys kick some ass. People love watching their favorite characters kick ass, and that's what a big part of this movie was.

This isn't a one-off movie, it's going to be a franchise of atleast 3 movies, and has to be viewed as such to really grade it. The story arch needs to stretch beyond one film.
