Well his response is childish and dismissive, while yours seems to want to engage him in an argument.
An awkward conversation all round.
As for adults being fanboys, there's examples of it everywhere. Even on this site. It's not something that appears to diminish with age for some people, in fact it may even cause them become increasingly narrow minded and less accepting the older and longer they stick to their bias and beliefs. Try as some people might, communication channels which are a tool to educate, inform and change peoples attitudes meet a brick wall against the resolve and deep rooted prejudice some of these people hold in the face of viable alternatives. I actually think many of them might not ever change.
