Does this mean Nintendo are lazier than 3rd parties or what? Why don't they display in 1080P?

They:

1) Don't feel the extra cost is worth the display resolution when they assume most consumers won't notice or care

2) Had to rush their release titles and decided to skimp in resolution

3) Something else I haven't thought of

Either way it show's Nintendo's dedication to the needs of the hardcore gamers made a console they don't yet feel like fully utilizing themselves.

It is also entirely possible that Nintendo's tools are not as mature as many third party developers because they didn't develop for the HD Twins in the previous generation, and developing features in these tools took a priority over optimization due to time constraints associated with releasing games for launch.

And wasn't there a quote from GameTrailers, saying that Nintendo developed Wii games at 720p and downgraded them to 480p for release. So I believe Nintendo just upgraded their previously developed Wii versions of Pikmin 3 and NSMB a bit for the console's launch.

Is NSMBU also going to be rendered at 720p?
