So, not much of an accomplishemnet in my opinion. No wonder Pokemon games haven't changed significantly since the release of Pokemon Red/Blue. Everything outside the main formula underperforms. Same with Mario, Zelda and Metroid. |
You have a point with Zelda, but Mario's second best selling game was a kart racer of all things, and Metroid's most popular installment, Prime, was a major change from its sidescrolling predecessors. And come to think of it, aren't the three best selling Zeldas, the original, Ocarina, and TP, all innoovative for their time in some way or another? Even TP was the first great motion control game.
