Why the hell did they not put in a second analog for the redesign?

Because it is a handheld, not a console. They want developers to use the touchscreen or gyro instead of another analog stick.

If you are really that pressed on getting portable console games, buy a Vita.
If you want home-portable console games, get the Wii U this fall.
